Payment processor Ira Rubin has been jailed for three years for processing illegal online gambling transactions for PokerStars, Full Tilt and Absolute Poker.
One of the men indicted in April 2011 by the US Department of Justice, Rubin was handed the longest sentence of any of the ‘Black Friday’ indictees to face court thus far.
The 54-year-old pleaded guilty in January to conspiracy charges relating to illegal gambling, wire fraud, bank fraud and money laundering.
Discussions between prosecution and defence lawyers lead to the recommendation that he should serve between 18 months and two years, but Judge Lewis Kaplan opted to hand out a harsher punishment, stating that Rubin was an “unreformed conman and fraudster”.
