Casino revenue declined in Maryland in February, marking a third consecutive monthly drop.

Maryland casino revenue dips for February

Figures released by the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency on Thursday show a generated total of $82.79m for the month, the lowest since September, which identifies a fall of over $7m from the record $90.17m that was reported for November.

Maryland Live Casino contributed the highest total of the five casinos in the state, generating $46.97m, down from January’s $49.45m.

Horseshoe Casino Baltimore, which opened in August, recorded $22.98m revenue, which is slightly down from the $23.15m total in January.

February’s revenue has increased year-on-year however, by $16.8m, or 25.4%, despite three of the state’s casinos posting a year-on-year decline in monthly revenue.

The Rocky Gap Casino Resort was the only casino to report a year-on-year monthly rise, up 11.7% to $3.47m.

When excluding the Horseshoe, the year-on-year monthly total is down 9.4% to $6.2m.

The recent problems suffered by the casinos have been put down to poor weather, as casino operators explained to the Maryland Lottery Gaming Control Commission at a meeting last month.

February saw one of the coldest months on record for the state and a storm hit the East Coast last month.

A sixth casino will enter the market next year, as construction recently began on the $1.2bn MGM National Harbor resort casino.
