UK Lotto has a new record jackpot winner

The record UK Lotto prize win has been broken for the second time this year, with one player being entitled to a £35.1m payout from Wednesday night’s draw.

While the owner of the winning ticket is yet to come forward, it is known that one winning ticket will take a 100% share of the jackpot.

The previous record was set by two winning tickets in January, when David and Carol Martin from Hawick, Scotland, claimed half of a £66m jackpot, while the other winner remained anonymous.

The latest win marks the third time a jackpot of over £30m has been won this year, as Gerry and Lisa Cannings from Peterborough won £32.5m in February.

Before this year, the record prize win had stood since 1995, when Paul Maddison and Mark Gardiner from Hastings played as a syndicate and won £22.6m.

The rules of the game changed in October, meaning that players now aim to pick six correct numbers drawn from a total of 59 balls, which was an increase on the previous total of 49 balls.

Camelot, operator of the National Lottery, lists that the odds of winning the jackpot have increased from 13.98 million/1 to 45.1 million/1 as a result of the change.
