Although a 2019 opening had previously been proposed, the Malaysian-based developer has since overhauled its designs in a concerted effort to cater to Chinese tourists and a younger generation of gamblers.

In a statement, Genting also announced that gaming industry veteran, Edward Farrel, had been named president of RWLV and would see through development of the $4bn project.

Genting Bhd President and Chief Operating Officer, Tan Kong Han, said: “As the shareholder of RWLV, we have full confidence in Ed’s ability to lead a well-organised team of highly qualified professionals to collectively shepherd RWLV through development and into successful operation.”

The 3,000 plus room scheme on Las Vegas’ north end of the strip is expected to include a 9290m2 casino, multiple restaurants, retails options, a nightclub and a gaming space.

Edward Farrel added: “Resorts World Las Vegas presents a unique opportunity to bring the Genting Group’s experience in developing and operating Asia’s leading integrated resorts to the United States, offering visitors to Las Vegas a new and compelling reason to stay on the north end of the Strip.”
