YGAM partners with Leeds United in problem gambling education drive
Young Gamers and Gamblers Education Trust (YGAM) has partnered with Leeds United football club to educate young people in the region on the risks related to gambling.
The safer gambling national charity will work with the Leeds United foundation to help teach and inform young people, teachers and parents on potential gambling harms, with the aim to safeguard the next generation of football and sports fans.
The partnership will provide training tailored specifically to protect young people in the local region, by equipping education practitioners with the knowledge required to identify issues and help young people recognise harmful behaviour.
YGAM will support the English Premier League club’s foundation by delivering their resources alongside coaches to local schools in the Yorkshire and Humber area, once coronavirus restrictions are relaxed.
YGAM’s Yorkshire and Humber education manager Amy Bussey, said: “Gambling is often described as the hidden addiction and education is essential in preventing harm.
“Sports foundations like Leeds United’s have a very positive, strong influence on young people, and they also have a huge influence within the local community.
“If we can get sports involved in prevention and education, we can work with young people before harm occurs.”
