GambleAware reveals list of donations received by gambling industry
UK gambling harm prevention charity GambleAware, has announced that it received £2.29m ($2.96m) in voluntary donations from the industry between April and September.
The amount, covering the first two quarters of 2020, excludes regulatory settlements and additional donations, with the charity asking those who profit from gambling in Britain to donate at least 0.1% of their annual gross gambling yield (GGY).
In terms of the biggest donations, Gamesys donated £450,000 of the total figure, with Betway parting with £134,000, and 888 Holdings the next highest with £50,000. Other significant donations came from Apricot Investments, with £40,000, while Videoslots donated £30,000 and Inspired Gaming Group £25,000.
Petre (Gibraltar) Limited made two separate donations totalling more than £61,000, as did Casumo, whose donations surpassed £43,000.
When it comes to pledges, William Hill pledged £1m, while Praesepe Holdings pledging £85,500.
The published list only includes operators who made pledges directly to GambleAware, as operators are able to donate to other organisations as part of their requirements to contribute to at least one research, education and treatment charity.
GambleAware also received £8.8m in regulatory settlements during the period, which can be made to socially responsibly causes as part of the settlement with the Gambling Commission.
These were made up of £3m by William Hill, regarding regulatory failings from its Mr Green subsidiary in February, and £5.8m from Betway, who were fined £11.6m by the Gambling Commission in March, due to a series of VIP failings.
From April 2019 to March 2020, GambleAware received £10m in voluntary donations from the gambling industry.
