Pragmatic Play donates £6,850 to Gibraltar wildlife park
Content provider Pragmatic Play has contributed almost £7,000 ($8,243) to a wildlife sanctuary in Gibraltar.
The Alameda Wildlife Conservation Park (AWCP) is home to several native and exotic animal species, including a new North American turtle exhibit.
Pragmatic’s donation comes to £6,850 in total and will help the AWCP refurbish its turtle ponds, which require running, filtered water to ensure the animals’ health and cleanliness.
Julian Jarvis, Pragmatic Play’s CEO, commented on the AWCP’s turtle exhibit, remarking: “Up to four species of turtle will be housed in a spacious pond in a prominent area of the park thanks to our donation, and we look forward to establishing new ways to support the conservation group moving forward.”
Situated in the Alameda Botanic Gardens, the AWCP is Gibraltar’s only wildlife sanctuary. The park cares for unwanted exotic pets and animals confiscated by customs, such as the cotton-topped tamarin, as well as other animals on loan from international zoos.
Its goal, more broadly, is to raise awareness of important endangered species through conservation education.
The AWCP also takes part in international conservation projects both in the wild and through captive breeding programmes. Ultimately, the park wants to play “an important role in the international effort to conserve rare and at-risk groups.”
“As the only wildlife park in Gibraltar, the AWCP fulfils a crucial part in the protection of rare animal species, and we’re extremely proud to be able to support the restructuring of its outdoor spaces and turtle ponds,” Jarvis added.
