The Nevada Gaming Control Board held a hearing on Thursday to discuss an application from Century Casinos.

Nugget Casino Resort has licensing approved

And the Board unanimously approved Century Casinos for its licence as the new owner of Nugget Casino Resort.

Century Casinos announced in February 2022 it intended to acquire Nugget Casino Resort, near Reno, for a total of $195m.

The casino was purchased from Marnell Gaming, a Las-Vegas based company with several resorts based in Nevada.

Commissioners also approved the sustainability of seven executives and board directors from Century.

In the 75-minute hearing, executives from Century stated they intended to prioritise updating The Nugget’s gaming floor.

Plans include installing over 100 new slot machines and renovating a central bar position.

The Nugget Casino also currently hosts 29 table games, several restaurants and an 8,555-seated outdoor amphitheatre.

On the purchase of Nugget Casino Resort, Erwin Haitzmann and Peter Hoetzinger, Co-CEOs of Century Casinos, said: “We have been looking at entering the Reno market for a long time and we believe the Nugget is a perfect fit for our portfolio.

“We look forward to welcoming the great team at the Nugget to Century Casinos.

“We believe there is a lot of upside to this transaction and that we identified some areas of improvement to continue the Nugget’s growth.”

Century Casinos currently operates 17 casinos across the United States, Canada and Poland, with 75% of its revenue generated from US properties.

The deal between Century Casinos and Marnell Gaming is expected to be closed later in 2023.
