Rush Street Interactive CEO Richard Schwartz has been a key figure in the company for over 13 years, making it one of the most successful and prominent entities in the gaming sector. After a decade at WMS Gaming, Richard joined RSI as President, was subsequently promoted to CEO, and drove the business to significant success and growth.







Richard held multiple roles at WMS Gaming from 2002 to 2012, concerned with intellectual property.
He joined Rush Street Interactive in 2012 and was appointed as CEO in August 2021. Richard maintains a strong focus on improving customer service, making the decision (in 2024) not to implement customer surcharges in high-tax states.
Rush Street Interactive boasts a healthy balance sheet under Richard Schwartz, with RSI revenues rising 21% to $262.4m for Q1 of 2025.
Richard has achieved considerable success during his leadership roles at both WMS and Rush Street Interactive. These achievements have been recognized by the industry and have earned multiple professional awards.
Richard Schwartz’s journey into gaming and technology was based on a solid academic foundation. He earned his bachelor’s degree at the University of California, Berkeley, followed by a law degree from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law.
Richard applied this experience to the legal field, serving as an Associate Attorney at Day Casebeer Madrid & Batchelder from 1999 to 2000.
He specialized in intellectual property before transitioning to a career combining law and technology, joining San Francisco’s Telecom Italia Lab USA as VP of Technology Development & Legal Affairs. Here, he laid the groundwork for a shift to interactive gaming.
By the early 2000s, Richard transitioned into the world of gambling, joining WMS Gaming Inc. as Intellectual Property Counsel before assuming strategic leadership positions, including Director of Corporate Development, Vice President of Corporate Development, and ultimately, Vice President of Online Gaming.
Richard Schwartz’s WMS gaming career was focused on vision and strategy for the company’s online gaming business. He also set about innovating products, building teams, and securing corporate funding. Blending legal insight with business acumen, Richard’s decade at WMS established him as a strong player in the industry, and it was only a matter of time before bigger things became a natural career progression.
In 2012, thanks to Richard’s entrepreneurial vision, he became a co-founder of Rush Street Interactive (RSI) and embarked on a mission to build a technology-first online gaming and betting operator.
As President of RSI, Richard helped the company expand in the iGaming and gambling industry. This was most evident in Latin America, where RSI posted a 61% year-on-year growth in monthly users.
Richard took on the role of CEO of Rush Street Interactive in 2021, and since then, RSI’s growth has been evident in revenue and global expansion.
RSI remains committed to maintaining its leadership position in the industry by continuously prioritising the needs and preferences of its players.
