Compliance Manager
Esportes Gaming Brasil
As the new Compliance Manager at Esportes Gaming Brasil, Ana Carolina Luna Maçães brings over a decade of legal and compliance experience to a sector that is undergoing rapid transformation amid tightening regulation.
Maçães has built a distinguished career at the intersection of law, ethics and corporate compliance, emerging as a key figure in Brazil’s regulated betting and iGaming industry. During her career, she has led compliance functions across major gaming operators, playing an important role in implementing anti-money laundering measures, aligning companies with Brazil’s evolving regulatory frameworks and cultivating internal cultures of integrity.
In 2025, Maçães was appointed Compliance Manager at Esportes Gaming Brasil, one of the sector’s prominent operators, where she now oversees regulatory alignment across both domestic and international markets. Holding a CPC-A certification and backed by experience in both private practice and corporate leadership, Maçães is recognised for her ability to translate complex legal requirements into practical, company-wide policies.
Maçães began her professional journey in 2012, practicing labour law at Serur & Neuenschwander Advogados Associados in Recife. Over the next few years, she gained valuable experience at a number of legal firms, including Lopes & Moury Fernandes and Albino Advogados Associados, where she represented corporate clients such as Banco Itaú. During this time, she honed her legal acumen, particularly in areas such as litigation, corporate governance and labour compliance.
Following on from this, in 2016, Maçães founded her own practice, Carolina Luna Advocacia, furthering her reputation as a versatile lawyer with a business-oriented mindset. By 2019, she became a partner at Travail, focusing heavily on corporate governance and labor compliance.
Maçães made her formal entry into the gaming domain as a lawyer for NSX Sportsbetting Ecosystem in 2022, combining her legal expertise with a growing interest in business ethics and regulatory frameworks.
She later became the Compliance Manager for NSX in March 2024. Over her year-long tenure in this position, she played an important role in preparing the company to meet Brazil’s newly expanded betting regulations. Her responsibilities ranged from drafting internal policies and conducting training programs to interfacing with regulators and managing risk assessments.
In May 2025, Maçães briefly joined DigiPlus Interactive Corp, another player in the Brazilian iGaming space, where she supported regulatory alignment and helped strengthen corporate governance.
Just one month later, she took on the role of Compliance Manager at Esportes Gaming Brasil, a major operator licensed under Brazil’s Secretariat of Prizes and Betting (SPA/MF) and the owner of the Onabet and Esportes da Sorte brands. Her appointment followed the hiring of Hugo Baungartner as the Executive Director of Institutional Relations and Strategic Partnerships.
CEO Darwin Filho commented on the development, adding: “It’s more than just complying with and supporting regulations. Esportes Gaming Brasil has been actively leading the process of maturing the betting sector in the country. Our commitment to governance has been an essential part of our business model since the beginning. The arrival of Ana Carolina represents a strategic reinforcement, further strengthening the culture of compliance that has always guided the company.”
