MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS
Schwartz has had a career spanning over two decades, showcasing a progression from legal roles to top executive positions for gaming companies.
Throughout this time, Schwartz has built a reputation as a strategic leader who has proven his capacity to drive business growth and boost customer satisfaction.
His career is marked by many achievements, particularly in the iGaming sector, where he has played a notable role in the online gaming space – ultimately leading him to become the CEO of Rush Street Interactive in August 2021.
EMPLOYMENT
Schwartz began his career in the legal field, working as an Associate Attorney specialising in Intellectual Property at Day Casebeer Madrid & Batchelder from 1999 to 2000.
He then served as VP of Technology Development & Legal Affairs at Telecom Italia Lab USA in San Francisco, broadening his expertise in technology and legal matters. He held this role for two years from 2000 to 2002.
Schwartz's journey in the gaming industry began at WMS Gaming, where he held various roles of increasing responsibility from 2002 to 2012. He started as Intellectual Property Counsel, where he played a role in establishing a dedicated IP group and managing intellectual property licensing activities.
A year into this role, Schwartz was appointed to a new position as Director of Corporate Development in 2003. He held this role for four years before jumping up the ranks again to the position of VP of Corporate Development. In these positions, Schwartz was responsible for defining and executing product strategies, as well as developing key partnerships.
Finally, in 2008, Schwartz was appointed as the Vice President of Online Gaming for WMS Gaming. In this role, he was the driving force behind the company’s online gaming strategy – securing corporate funding, building development and operations teams and leading the creation of gaming products. He held this position for four years from 2008 to 2012, completing his decade-long stint with WMS Gaming.
In April 2012, Schwartz joined Rush Street Interactive (RSI). Initially serving as President, he spent nearly a decade leveraging RSI’s assets to deliver online play experiences. His efforts in expanding RSI’s offerings and enhancing the customer experience played an important role in the company’s success.
In August 2021, Schwartz was ultimately appointed as the CEO of RSI, a role that he still holds to this day. Under his leadership, RSI has experienced significant growth, particularly in the competitive US and Latin American markets.
Off the back of Schwartz's strategic decisions, RSI has recorded impressive revenues and substantial improvements in adjusted EBITDA – as evidenced by the company’s financial results in recent quarters. In Q2 2024, RSI reported a 34% year-on-year revenue increase to $220.4m, with adjusted EBITDA rising significantly from $1.2m in Q2 2023 to $21.4m in Q2 2024.
Schwartz has also maintained a strong focus on customer satisfaction during his tenure as CEO. In August 2024, for example, he made a notable decision not to implement customer surcharges in high-tax states.
RSI remains committed to maintaining its leadership position in the industry by continuously prioritising the needs and preferences of its players Richard Schwartz
