Aspire Global receives conditional $1.75m fine from Swedish regulator; but is now compliant

Aspire Global subsidiary AG Communications has received a conditional fine of SEK 15m ($1.75m) from Sweden’s Patent and Market Court, for Gaming Act violations relating to its Karamba entity.

However, AG Communications has informed Gambling Insider that it will not have to pay the fine, as it has since updated its policies to ensure it is compliant.

Licensed by the Spelinspektionen for online games, the operator has been charged with having advertising that contravenes gaming law’s requirements for moderation.

The firm has also been ordered to have clearer instructions regarding the restrictions that exist for free spins and bonuses.

Karamba features an advertisement which promises a bonus of SEK 2,000, but players are forced to play for more than SEK 70,000 to be able to qualify for that bonus.

The five points of the ruling contained several demands for clearer information from the company in its future advertisements, with each point carrying a weight of SEK 3m.

The ruling issued by the Patent and Market Court has been praised by Sweden’s consumer ombudsman Konsumentverket.

“It is good that the court clearly states it is not allowed to mislead someone into believing you get a big bonus, when in fact it is about having to play for very large amounts for a short time to have a chance to get the bonus or be able to withdraw some winnings,” said Pär Magnusson, process advisor at the Consumer Ombudsman, KO.
