Romanian Lottery service will implement card payments

Romania’s state-owned CEC Bank will implement card payments in the Romanian Lottery’s units.

Users will also be able to complete transactions via phone or using contactless payments.

According to the contract, CEC Bank will deploy POS equipment to the 903 Lottery units across the country.

The installation should be finished by the end of February, while it should also support cards issued abroad.

General manager of the Romanian Lottery Sebastian-Iacob Moga said, “Implementing card payment in all our agencies is another important and necessary step in the process of digitising the Romanian Lottery and a fulfilled promise to our players.

“The pilot project on card payment started last year in 91 agencies in Bucharest and Brasov, and was carried out successfully, in compliance with all security standards.”

The Romanian Lottery is controlled by the state. Romania Insider reported the Lottery earns about RON1bn (€200m) every year, though so far this sum was made up pf cash only.

Elsewhere, the Lottery service is planning on expanding its reach with an online lottery, which is currently unavailable in Romania.
