Genting SkyWorlds will be located in Resorts World Genting, the group’s casino complex in Malaysia.
The operator has reportedly invested more than MYR3.2bn ($800m) into the project and is now putting the “finishing touches” to the project.
The park covers 26 acres and should have 26 rides and attractions, including roller coasters and water rides.
“We’re committed to this park and we will see to it that it opens, barring unforeseen circumstances,” said Lee Thiam Kit, Genting Malaysia's head of business operations and strategies.
“Going forward, when we open, there will be jobs created and the park will add economic activity directly and indirectly, as well as a boost to tourism in Malaysian and Pahang.”
The theme park’s design is partially based on 20th Century Studios brands, featuring rides themed around Ice Age, Night at the Museum and Planet of the Apes.
But there will be attractions inspired by other intellectual properties, too. RWG’s head of theme parks Gregory Pearn said that while 20th Century IPs are “fantastic to have”, the group aims to complement them “with our own homegrown IPs" and that "in the long term, the plan is to introduce other IPs to the park as well.”
