Police raided a house in one of Bangkok’s districts and found it was used as the office of a company called NUTS GAME-TH, which ran a gambling website called “DDPoker”. Five of the suspects are Chinese nationals, others are Thai hired as call center operators.
Police seized assets with a combined value of THB15m ($490,270), including computers, 22 bank books, 100,000 baht in cash, five cars and two motorcycles.
“We found that the suspects registered an online gaming company as a front for an online gambling operation,” said deputy national police chief Pol Lt Gen Preecha Charoensahayanon. “The company is owned by a Chinese national residing in Hong Kong, while his Thai girlfriend was named managing director and administrator of the website.”
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the website, which has more than 170,000 visitors per month, has been circulating at least Bt30 million per month. We also found evidence of several million baht being transferred to a bank account in Hong Kong,” added the police.
The suspects operated the online gaming business for over three years and had several locations. The police traced the funds and found large figures transferred to Hong Kong banks. The task force aims to continue investigating other related operations both in Thailand and overseas.
