DOJ set to sue Steve Wynn over lobbyist allegations

According to reports from The Wall Street Journal, prosecutors have assembled evidence against Steve Wynn.

DOJ

Reportedly, the Department of Justice (DOJ) is preparing to sue Wynn due to allegations that he attempted to lobby Trump administration officials.

Wynn served as an informal advisor during Donald Trump’s reign as President and the allegations suggest that in 2017, he attempted to encourage US officials to send businessman, Guo Wengui, back to China.

The issue is that Wynn was acting on behalf of the Chinese Government, to provide the country with someone who is still considered a fugitive by China.

Wengui left China in 2014 to seek asylum in the United States and has been residing in New York; he has been accused of bribery and sexual assault.

Sources say the DOJ is prepared to take Wynn to court if he does not register as a lobbyist under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA), which allows judges to force compliance with the law.

In addition to the alleged case, according to the journal there is also a reported letter to Trump from the Chinese Government regarding Wengui.

Wynn has denied reports of this letter and has admitted to no wrongdoing on behalf of a foreign government.

Wynn’s attorney told The Wall Street Journal: “Steve Wynn never served as an agent or lobbyist for China or anyone else.

“He was merely a loyal messenger of information he received to our government.”

Wynn played a huge part in the development of Las Vegas over the years but found himself disgraced after a series of sexual misconduct allegations.
