The International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) has confirmed it reported 38 suspicious betting cases to relevant authorities during the second quarter of 2021.

Overall, the quarter’s total shows a 41% decrease in reported alerts from Q1.

In terms of sports, out of the 38 cases, 16 were in football, nine in table tennis, six in tennis and esports, and one in volleyball.

The six reports in tennis are the lowest since the IBIA starting producing quarterly reports in 2015, while the 16 alerts in football represents a 33% quarterly increase.

From a geographical point of view, Europe accounted for 47% of all alerts, with Asia and South America accounting for 13% each.

Khalid Ali, IBIA CEO, said: “The 38 cases in Q2, added to the 64 cases in Q1, brings the mid-year total to 102 alerts reported by the association. Football has provided the highest number of alerts during that period with 28, followed by tennis (24) and esports (23).

“These three sports comprise nearly 75% of all alerts reported in the first half of 2021. IBIA’s expanding membership means that, as set out in the recently published Optimum Betting Market report, it now represents $137bn in global regulated betting turnover per annum; making it the largest customer-based integrity platform in the world with nearly 50% of the commercial online market.”

The IBIA is an organisation that is run by operators to protect members from corruption through collective action.

It uses a monitoring and alert platform, which detects and reports suspicious activity on its member’s betting markets.
