Macau reports 20% rise in visitor numbers for 1H21

Macau has reported visitor numbers of 3,927,829 for the first half of 2021, a 20% year-on-year increase.

According to the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC), overnight visitors and same-day visitors also increased year-on-year. The former rose by 33% to 2,058,657, with the latter climbing 9% to 1,869,172.

The average length of stay of visitors meanwhile grew to 1.6 days, a climb of 0.2 days from the prior-year period, with the duration for overnight visitors also rising by 0.2 days to 2.9 days. Same-day visitors fell by 0.1 days to 0.1 days.

Visitor arrivals for June 2021 alone increased to 528,519, a 2,243% year-on-year increase. The total was, however, a 39% month-on-month decline, primarily due to the reinforced prevention and control measures in the region due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Same-day visitors and overnight visitors also reported declines for the period, dropping by 20% and 55% respectively.

Mainland visitors arrivals increased by 2,140% year-on-year to 471,935, with 120,604 travelling under the Individual Visit Scheme.

Analysed by checkpoint, the number of visitors arriving by land increased by 1,904% year-on-year for June 2021, with 88% arriving through the Border Gate. Air and sea visitor numbers totalled 69,390 and 9,353 respectively.
