Marina Bay Sands casino reopens after two-week closure

The Marina Bay Sands (MBS) casino has reopened its doors, following a two-week closure after a Covid-19 infection cluster was traced on 21 July.

In a statement posted on its website, MBS said its casino has implemented precautionary measures for the reopening, including an enhanced testing regime for staff.

"Under our enhanced Rostered Routine Testing (RRT) programme, guest-facing staff undergo Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) swab testing at an increased frequency, depending on their vaccination status and job risk profiles."

MBS also mentioned that "temperature screening will be conducted prior to entry into the casino" and that there will be "limitations on the number of patrons in private salons and at each gaming table, while electronic gaming machines and slots will be placed at least one metre apart."

The casino outlined that it will only allow two patrons per gaming table and only one patron per slot/ETG machine.

Team members who interact directly with customers will use masks and will sanitise their hands before and after shifts at gaming tables, while high-touch areas and equipment will be sanitised more frequently. At this time, eating, drinking or smoking is not allowed in the casino premises.

MBS is committed to ensuring its casino has better air quality and increased external airflow into the building, with the operator adding that "the casino air handling units are also equipped with high-quality hospital-grade HEPA filters."

The casino was closed from 22 July for extensive deep cleaning after positive cases for Covid-19 were tracked to it. The closure was the second time in two months that MBS had suspended its operations for cleaning.
