The debut was initially targeted for the first half of 2021 (after having received a temporary Internet Sports Betting Operator licence in December 2020), but Betsson faced an intense period in meeting reporting requirements from various regulators which had the debut postponed.
The operator's adapted sportsbook for the US market is scheduled to go through a testing and certification phase starting in the present quarter, and is expected to last approximately three to four months, according to the company.
Betsson has not disclosed what other US states it has targeted in its expansion strategy, but has expressed an interest in commercial opportunities in Ontario. As part of its growth into the Canadian market, Betsson has acquired a 28% stake in the Canadian startup company Slapshot Media.
Pontus Lindwall, Betsson AB CEO, said: “The investments in the US market to be able to launch our B2C offerings in Colorado during the first quarter of 2022 continue according to plan. The sportsbook has also been integrated into the Strive platform, which has now been certified in the state of Colorado. The fact that the Strive platform is certified will benefit us during the testing and certification processes that are initiated now.”
Colorado had gone live on 1 May 2020, when four sportsbook operators (BetMGM, BetRivers, DraftKings and FanDuel) launched state-focused mobile sports betting apps. Betsson gained access in the state via an online partnership with Dostal Alley Casino and Brewpub in Central City.
