SBK sponsors up-and-coming horse racing trainer George Boughey
SBK, the sportsbook app powered by Smarkets, will sponsor horse racing trainer, George Boughey. Owing to his sudden rise in the world of horse racing, SBK has tapped Boughey, aged 29, as an exciting prospect.
He only started training in 2019, but has rapidly risen through the ranks, having sent out 81 winners so far this year, with a 19% strike rate. This places Boughey 14th on the list of Britain’s leading trainers, with the notable distinction of being the only one under 30 in the top 50.
Based in Newmarket, Boughey has made a name for himself training two-year-olds. During his brief career, he has sent out 37 juvenile winners — the fifth most in the UK. As a result, SBK has signed a sponsorship deal with the young trainer, the first of its kind for the company.
Boughey remarked enthusiastically on his new relationship with the sportsbook operator, saying: “I’m delighted to be teaming up with SBK for the next two years. It is a really exciting partnership for all of us at Saffron House Stables and hopefully we can continue to progress as a yard in 2022 and beyond.”
With this deal, Boughey will join five jockeys who also benefit from SBK’s backing. On the flat, Sean Levey, Nicola Currie and Richard Kingscote are SBK-sponsored jockeys, while on the National Hunt side of the sport, the brand has Tom Bellamy and Page Fuller.
“The opportunity to sponsor George Boughey and his yard is an incredibly exciting one for SBK,” said SBK spokesperson Adam Baylis.
“We are thrilled to be teaming up with one of the most exciting stables in the country and we can’t wait to see what George will achieve in the next two years.”
