Sky Bet Sunday Series set to return in 2022

Sky Bet is bringing its Sunday Series back for another year in an expanded format that will feature six race days, each presented by ITV Racing.

2022 will mark the return of Sky Bet’s new horse racing event, in partnership with ITV and Racecourse Media Group (RMG). The Flutter-owned sports betting brand is looking to build on the success of its inaugural 2021 series with the addition of three new racecourses.

Hamilton Park, York and Pontefract will join Musselburgh, Haydock Park and Sandown Park in staging next year’s meetings. The race days will take place over three months, starting with Hamilton Park on 8 May and ending at Sandown on 21 August.

Mark Trinder, ITV’s Director of Commercial Sales and Partnerships, commented: “The inaugural series featured highly competitive, good-quality racing, with excellent field sizes, and a fresh injection of significant prize money and bonuses.

“The feedback we received from racegoers, racecourses, bookmakers and the media has been highly encouraging and valuable in developing the Series for 2022.”

The Series will be open to all trainers who have horses eligible for the race conditions. There will be £1.2m ($1.6m) in prize money up for grabs, with further details to be announced in the new year.

Sky Bet also stated that it will endeavour to provide a behind-the-scenes look at horse racing and what goes into staging a race day.

“Sky Bet are excited to continue our partnership with the Sunday Series next year. We have seen great customer demand for good quality racing on a Sunday evening and are delighted to expand the series to six meetings in 2022,” said Sky Bet CEO Steve Birch.

“The Series was a great collaborative industry effort in 2021, and we are really looking forward to working closely again with RMG, ITV, the racecourses and Horsemen to put on another great show for racing.”
