Flutter Entertainment reaffirms responsible gambling efforts

Flutter Entertainment has doubled down on its commitment to safer gambling after repurposing its Risk Committee.

ESGCorporate

Atif Rafiq has been appointed an independent Non-Executive Director, joining Flutter’s new Risk and Sustainability Committee which will oversee the group’s environmental, social and governance strategy.

In announcing his appointment, Flutter emphasised Rafiq’s experience, having previously held various positions at MGM Resorts International, as well as leadership roles at Volvo, McDonald’s, Amazon and Yahoo! Moreover, Rafiq is currently a Non-Executive Director of KINS Technology Group.

Commenting on the changes, Gary McCann, Chair of the group, said: “The Risk and Sustainability Committee strengthens our governance arrangements for oversight of sustainability matters on behalf of the Board, whilst continuing to monitor material risks that impact our reputation.”

This was followed by a statement from Conor Grant, the group’s Chief Exec for the UK and Ireland, in which he highlighted Flutter Entertainment’s efforts in relation to safer gambling and reaffirmed its commitment to protecting at-risk customers.

He discussed the group’s previous endeavours, saying Flutter had “welcomed the launch of the Gambling Act Review”, and insisted its efforts “aren’t cosmetic gestures”.

In particular, Grant discussed Flutter’s approach to affordability, acknowledging that each customer’s circumstances are different, and highlighted its Affordability Triple Step that uses “cutting-edge technology and algorithms” to better monitor players’ behaviour and personalise protections.

Grant also commented on the company’s work to shield younger customers from gambling-related harms, emphasising its new £500 ($662.26) per month deposit limits for players aged under 25.

He said: “It is our shared mission to provide the best experience for customers in a safe and sustainable way that has led us to where we are today. As we all look ahead to 2022, with many of us still working from home and Christmas still unclear, I am comforted by the real changes we have made as a business over the last 12 months and look forward to the new year with optimism.”
