During her time at Gateway, Wong has worked on several key transactions, including the company’s acquisition of Playtime Gaming, which added six properties to Gateway’s portfolio.
She also assisted the company’s expansion into Ontario — a territory in which Gateway now operates 12 properties — as well as the company’s refinancing in October 2021.
Prior to joining Gateway, Wong worked in the Audit and Assurance Group at multinational accounting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).
Wong’s appointment as CFO also comes as Gateway rebounds from problems caused by Covid-19. The company’s operations are predominantly land-based, so it has suffered from closures and limited capacity restrictions.
However, Gateway recently reopened its poker rooms at Grand Villa Burnaby and Cascades Casino Langley after capacity restrictions were removed.
But the Omicron variant is now presenting new problems. While Ontario-based casinos saw capacity limits lifted on 25 October, they have now been forced to close as the territory attempts to curb a sudden increase in hospitalisations.
Wong will have to confront this problem as she steps into her new role. As CFO, she will report directly to Gateway’s Chief Exec Tony Santo, who expressed his confidence in Wong.
He said: “Queenie’s leadership has been instrumental in facilitating Gateway’s growth across the company’s portfolio of properties and new developments, as well as being a strategic leader throughout the Covid recovery period.”
