Subject to regulatory approvals, Issenberg will join The Star’s seven-person Board of Directors, bringing with him more than three decades’ worth of experience in the hotel industry.

His professional career includes a 25-year tenure with hospitality giant AccorHotels, where he held various executive roles. Most recently, Issenberg acted as Chairman and CEO for its Asia-Pacific arm.

And prior to this, the veteran executive served as CEO for Mirvac Hotels, which followed periods at Westin Hotels and Resorts, Laventhol & Horwath and Horwath & Horwath Services in San Francisco and Sydney.

Issenberg is currently Chairman of Tourism Australia and Reef Corporate Services, the responsible entity of Reef Casino Trust. He holds a degree in hotel administration from Cornell University.

“I am pleased to be joining The Star Entertainment Group at such an exciting time in the company’s development growth trajectory and as the tourism industry begins its recovery from the pandemic,” remarked Issenberg.

“I look forward to utilising my extensive industry experience to complement the current diverse board.”

Welcoming Issenberg on board was The Star Chairman John O’Neill, who commented: “Michael has impeccable credentials and extensive experience across the hotel industry.

“His appointment provides a valuable and complementary addition to the board as The Star continues developing and transforming our world-class properties.”

Issenberg’s appointment was announced concurrently with The Star’s financial results for the six months ended 31 December 2021, for which it reported a net loss of AU$74m (US$53.2m).
