The Bitcoin Hunt will officially launch ahead of the game against Norwich on Wednesday 23 February, offering participants the chance of winning a Bitcoin, which has this year been worth between £25,000 ($34,000) and £35,000. Its current price is £28,600.
There will be several rounds of the game, with each one aiming to add new elements to the participant’s experience. This will include in-person QR code hunts, social media tasks and quizzes on the history of Southampton Football Club.
There will also be the chance to collect limited edition QR cards and participate in the live final on Saturday 30 April during the home game against Crystal Palace.
More specifically, round one will see participants searching for QR codes throughout the city and the stadium; these will lead to a virtual microsite to sign up for the competition.
Round two starts on Monday 14 March and involves the completion of blockchain-style puzzles using historical Southampton shirts.
The third round begins on Monday 4 April. During this week, participants will need to answer a series of questions and keep an eye on the football club’s social media channels to find a hidden Bitcoin.
In conclusion, the lucky dip winner will be chosen randomly from those who have successfully completed all three rounds.
Charles Read, Southampton Football Club's Head of Partnership Marketing, said: “We are incredibly excited about the launch of Sportsbet’s Bitcoin Hunt competition. We believe this is the first competition of its kind and the first time a Football Club has given fans the chance to win a Bitcoin, which has been worth between £25k-35k in 2022! We hope that everyone will enjoy taking part in the innovative competition."
Joe McCallum, Sportsbet's Director of Sportsbook, added: “The Bitcoin Hunt is an innovative way for Sportsbet and Southampton Football Club to enhance our partnership. This will help everyone understand the world of Bitcoin and Blockchain technology in a safe environment. It is a key part of our strategic vision to educate the wider world about cryptocurrencies and eliminate the myths whilst bringing it into our everyday life.”
