China’s top-flight football league has extended its partnership with sports data firm Stats Perform in a new, multi-year deal.

The Chinese Super League (CSL) has named the company its event and tracking data provider, bringing Stats Perform’s SportVU system to the home ground of every CSL club.

Under their agreement, the company has been granted the exclusive right to collect tracking data, which alongside “Opta” event data, will supplement the league’s broadcast and digital channels.

This includes analytics and predictive data to be used across the league’s various platforms before, during and after a game.

In addition to the firm’s data provision, another component of their partnership is Stats Perform’s new “Pressbox Graphics” application, which produces automated visual graphics and animations using Opta data.

“We are delighted to be strengthening our partnership with the Chinese Super League,” said Alex Rice, Chief Rights Officer at Stats Perform.

“We know how important data is becoming to stakeholders in providing their fans with new and engaging audience experiences.”

Stats Perform and the CSL’s relationship dates back to 2016 when they first signed an agreement. Now, with the ink drying on their latest deal, the organisations’ partnership looks set to continue for the foreseeable future.

Rice added: “Through the delivery of Opta data, fans of the Chinese Super League will benefit from insights derived from the industry’s leading and most reliable data source.

“On the pro side, I am also pleased that we will be able to support technical staff with visual in-game insights to help with player engagement and development.”
