Groumoutis’ appointment follows the launch of Ontario’s iGaming market earlier this month, a market that has already attracted considerable attention from big-name betting operators which the provider will most likely want to capitalise on.
OpenBet discussed Groumoutis’ experience, not just in gaming but Canadian gaming in particular, and will look to leverage his insights as the country’s most populous province rolls out commercial online gambling.
Of most use in his new role will be Groumoutis’ 10-year tenure with the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC), where he recently served as Director of eGaming.
During this time, Groumoutis undoubtedly acquired some familiarity with OpenBet’s products and procedures as the company is currently a supplier partner of the Canadian lottery.
What’s more, his experience as an operator will likely lend itself to OpenBet’s dealings with its sportsbook operator partners.
“I am very excited to be joining the OpenBet family. During my time with BCLC, I was exceedingly impressed by OpenBet’s ability to maximise operational value delivery, while also maintaining a strong focus on the future and innovation in the industry,” said Groumoutis.
He added: “North America is in the planning or early stages of growth in most states and provinces, and operators are looking for not just vendors but real partners to help them succeed.
“This has always been a strength of OpenBet’s approach, and I believe it will be one of the main reasons for our continued growth.”
