Camelot lose Health Lottery review case

Nati

NationalLottery
onal Lottery operators Camelot have lost a High Court action against the UK Gambling Commission over the operations of the Health Lottery.

Camelot had issued judicial review proceedings against the Commission for what it described as the regulatory body’s “continuing failure to take appropriate regulatory action against The Health Lottery”.

Camelot claimed the rival Health Lottery was an “unlawful and a blatant example of an attempt to commercialise a society lottery on an industrial scale”, something they said “cuts across both the spirit and letter of statute and regulation”.

However the High Court found in favour of the Commission, who said they “welcomed” the decision not to grant the review.
