With a focus on sharing best practice and discussing concerns for the gambling sector, within the AML and counter-terrorist financing space, those in attendance heard from a range of security experts and regulatory representatives.

One of those was Keith Bristow, formerly the Director-General of the National Crime Agency, who serves as Chairperson for the GAMLG.

Also among the speakers was Claire Wilson, a Senior Manager at the Gambling Commission, who spoke about the regulatory forces at play and lessons to be learned from the current landscape.

One of the session’s key aims was to encourage gambling operators to reconsider their own approach to AML; and the risks posed by the growing threat, including new developments in technology and the measures they can put in place to narrow the likelihood of it happening.

Entain, Playtech, William Hill, Genting, Betway and Gamesys were among those in attendance on 25 April.

In addition to a range of guest speakers, there were also a number of best practice sessions that took place, led by those such as the current Director-General of the National Crime Agency, Graeme Biggar, who delivered guidance on how big the current threat is to the gambling industry.

Representatives from the UK Financial Intelligence Unit and KPMG also gave lectures on how to spot suspicious activity, as well as tutorials on building a company culture of compliance.
