The state-owned gambling company has inked a three-year “cooperation agreement” with Svensk Travsport, gaining access to data and streaming rights for Swedish trotting, otherwise known as harness racing.
Harness racing is a popular sport in Sweden, with significant amounts wagered each year, primarily through ATG, the Swedish Horse Racing Totalisator Board.
But now, through its agreement with Svensk Travsport, Svenska Spel Sport & Casino has created “good conditions” to develop “a complete offer of Swedish trotting.”
Svenska Spel already offers games on trotting via an agreement with France’s Pari Mutuel Urbain (PMU), including daily games on both French trot and gallop, but is now looking to bring this action closer to home.
“We are very happy to finally be able to present the collaboration with Svensk Travsport. This agreement creates good conditions for being able to develop a complete offer of Swedish trotting to our customers,” said Fredrik Wastenson, Svenska Spel Sport & Casino CEO.
“This is also an important first step towards being able to participate in and develop the sport that we have been looking forward to for so long.”
Maria Croon, Svensk Travsport CEO, expressed a similar sentiment, remarking: “We look forward to the collaboration with Svenska Spel Sport & Casino, which is a large and important player in the gaming market.
“We have high hopes that this can further increase interest in the sport of trotting going forward.
“The recently signed cooperation agreement will be the starting point for a broad investment in Swedish trotting and the development of new trotting products from Svenska Spel Sport & Casino.”
