The recent update covers Boyd’s ESG efforts in 2021, documenting the company’s commitment to curbing its impact on the environment, efforts to foster a more inclusive workspace and support for local communities.
In regard to Boyd’s environmental efforts, its water consumption in 2021 was up slightly on a year-over-year basis. The company used 1.17bn gallons of water last year, up from the 1.08bn gallons used in 2020.
However, water consumption remains below pre-pandemic levels, while Boyd’s cumulative water savings since 2017 nearly doubled from 2020.
Concerning the company’s push for greater diversity, roughly 53% of new hires in 2021 were women, while 55% were from ethnic minority backgrounds.
And in response to the statement, “I am treated with respect regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, age or any other aspect of my identity,” 87% of employees responded affirmatively.
Boyd’s ESG programme is built on four pillars, namely, the environment, people, communities and corporate governance, while its culture is reflected, or so the company claims, by a further four values, collectively referred to as the “Boyd Style.”
These are “value relationships,” “integrity,” exceed expectations” and “work smart.” Keith Smith, Boyd’s President and CEO, commented: “The tenets of ESG have long been a part of Boyd Gaming’s mission.
“Our latest ESG report provides a comprehensive look at how our company is fulfilling our ongoing commitment to protecting the environment, treating our stakeholders with respect and integrity and consistently acting in the best interests of the communities we call home.”
