Pennsylvania reports gaming revenue of $448m for May

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board has reported combined gross gaming revenue (GGR) of $447.8m for May 2022.

The figure includes all forms of gaming and marked an 8% GGR increase from May 2021. 

Slot machines generated the highest revenue, taking $205.7m this May, a 2% increase year-on-year. 

This yearly increase runs parallel to an increased number of operational slot machines in Pennsylvania, rising from 22,496 in May 2021 to 26,004 in May 2022. 

Parx Casino made the most of any Pennsylvania casino from slots, taking $34.3m for May. However, its GGR was down 9% on Parx Casino’s revenue from slots last year. 

Other casinos saw vast year-on-year increases, helping the state reach its 8% GGR rise. Yearly increases include 9% at Wind Creek Bethlehem, 17% at Valley Forge Casino Resort and 13% at Live! Casino Pittsburgh. 

Hollywood Casino at Penn National made the highest GGR of any Pennsylvania casino, taking $62.8m in total for May 2022. 

Although only taking $13.1m from slots and $13.2m from casino games, Hollywood Casino dominated revenue from iGaming by generating $45.5m for the month.  

Its closest competitor for the vertical was Rivers Casino Philadelphia, which was down significantly on Hollywood Casino’s total at $26.9m.

Furthermore, table games made $88.6m for May, with Wind Creek Bethlehem leading the pack by taking $22.5m for the month.

Wind Creek Bethlehem’s total marked a significant yearly GGR increase of 66%, only making $13.6m in May 2021.  

Elsewhere, Pennsylvania’s total sports wagering handle stood at $493.4m, 10% above what it did in May 2021. As a result, May 2022’s taxable revenue amount from sports betting increased by 26% to $35m.  

Of all Pennsylvania’s operators, Valley Forge Casino Resort took the highest total sports betting handle in May, making $193.4m.  

Its closest competitor was Hollywood Casino at the Meadows, which took a total handle of $111.5m for May 2022.
