Higginson’s departure will bring to a close a three-year tenure at Flutter Entertainment, where he has served as a non-executive director (NED) since 2019.

However, he will see out 2022 as a board member, though Alfred F. Hurley Jr will replace him as Chair of the Remuneration Committee starting next month, while Carolan Lennon will join the Nomination Committee.

Meanwhile, Holly Keller Koeppel will assume the mantle of Senior Independent Director (SID) from 1 January next year.

Gary McGann, Flutter’s Chairman, thanked Higginson for his service and insights, commenting: “I wish to take this opportunity to thank Andy for his exceptional contribution to the board.

“Since joining the board in 2019, Andy has provided Flutter with the benefit of his extensive business leadership experience which the company will continue to benefit from until the end of the year.”

Barring any additions between now and December, Higginson’s departure will see Flutter’s Board drop to 13 members.

Alongside Hurley, Lennon, Koeppel and McGann, this will include Flutter’s CEO Peter Jackson and CFO Jonathan Hill, as well as NEDs Zillah Byng-Thorne, Nancy Cruickshank, Nancy Dubuc, Richard Flint, David Lazzarato, Atif Rafiq and Mary Turner.

However, Byng-Thorne has also declared her intent to step down before 2023’s annual general meeting (AGM). Moreover, Higginson’s decision to leave comes after he was appointed Chair of JD Sports Fashion in July

Earlier this month, meanwhile, Flutter published its H1 financial results, highlighting a 9% year-on-year revenue increase.
