Founder of Wynn Resorts, Steve Wynn, has defeated a US lawsuit stating that Wynn should be registered as a Chinese agent.
After winning the case, Wynn can no longer be ordered to register with the US Department of Justice (DOJ) as a foreign agent of China.
News of Wynn’s victory prompted a response from the prosecution team behind the RICO case against Wynn, led by Jordan Matthews.
He said: “[The case dismissal] directly coincides with efforts by the National Archives and Records Administration (‘NARA’) to obtain allegedly missing documents from Mar-a-Lago, that may very well contain further evidence of Steve Wynn’s alleged attempts to continually lobby the Trump Administration to protect his business interests in Macau.”
Wynn's attorneys sent the following comments to Gambling Insider: "We are delighted that the District Court today dismissed the government’s ill-conceived lawsuit against Steve Wynn. Mr Wynn never acted as an agent of the Chinese government and never lobbied on its behalf. This is a claim that should never have been filed, and the Court agreed."
China, Philippines blacklist confusion
After it was reported that China officially blacklisted the Philippines as a tourist destination, the Chinese Embassy in Manila has now said it is not blacklisting the Philippines as a tourist destination.
The Chinese Embassy made the announcement on the evening of 11 October 2022.
Its statement read: “The report of ‘tourist blacklist’ is misinformation.” This is despite comments from a top official from the Philippines, who said the Filipino Chinese Ambassador had told a group of local senators that China had blacklisted all travel to the Philippines.
Singapore’s GRA pledges to continue CRA work
Over in Singapore, the new body introduced to succeed the Casino Regulatory Authority (CRA) – the Gaming Regulatory Authority (GRA) – has said it will ensure casino gambling harms are kept at bay from Singaporeans.
Writing in the GRA’s annual report, the body’s CEO Teo Chun Ching pledged to continue the work the CRA had previously been undertaking.
Teo said: “Even as CRA transits into GRA to regulate other forms of gambling, our robust supervisory oversight of the casinos will continue to ensure that the harms of casino gambling are kept at bay.”
Tabcorp agrees to AU$33m investment in Dabble Sports
The investment is for a 20% equity interest on a fully diluted basis in Dabble, subject to customary conditions including Northern Territory Racing Commission approval. Per the deal, Dabble will have the right to appoint a director to its board, with that appointment subject to probity approval.
Paul Steel appointed Independent Monitor of Crown Perth
Elsewhere, a new Independent Monitor of Crown Perth has been appointed.
Police Force Assistant Commissioner Paul Steel has been charged with supervising the casino by the Western Australia (WA) State Government. He will take on the role in November 2022.
The appointment, which mirrors the Victorian Government’s decision to supervise Crown Melbourne, follows a Royal Commission report handed down earlier this year; one that found the operator unsuitable to retain its casino licence for Crown Perth.
