MGM Resorts International has pledged $1m to Grant a Gift Autism Foundation-Ackerman Centre (GGAF).

MGM Resorts pledges $1m to Grant a Gift Autism Foundation-Ackerman Centre

The pledge will help fund a new vocational job placement programme, providing training and employment opportunities at MGM Resorts to people with autism.

MGM Resorts says US national data reveals that most autistic adults are unemployed and underemployed, facing challenges in attaining competitive workplace opportunities.

MGM Resorts CEO Bill Hornbuckle said: “As the largest private employer in Nevada, we have a responsibility to contribute to the social and economic progress of our community, including creating pathways to employment.

“Our vision for embracing humanity aligns with the incredible work of GGAF as they work to improve the lives of adults with autism in Southern Nevada.”

Per the deal, GGAF will provide clients with a 12-week vocational readiness training programme – Working on Occupational Readiness, Knowledge and Skills.

The programme will teach participants vocational skills and offer parent empowerment training and other family services.

Upon completing the programme, all participants will be eligible to apply for MGM Resorts vacancies. Any new employees will be able to seek on-site coaching through GGAF, an extended employee onboarding process.

In July 2022, MGM Resorts Talent Acquisition Team held its first hiring event at the GGAF Ackerman Centre, extending offers of employment to the first group of successful participants in the programme.

MGM Resorts’ $1m pledge will be used to expand the programme over the next five years.

The operator says it will continue to be an active partner to GGAF, providing cash contributions, volunteers and job placement support, which included a $140,000 corporate grant in June 2022.
