Silverstein Properties announces The Avenir, casino and affordable housing project

The latest development plans from Silverstein Properties hope to offer 100 units of affordable housing to the community, alongside its latest casino and entertainment complex.

Silverstein Properties, a real estate investment, development and management firm, has announced its latest plans for a complex in Manhattan’s West Side.

Named the Avenir, the complex would comprise of a hotel, casino and entertainment facilities, as well as 100 affordable housing apartments.

Larry Silverstein, Chairman of Silverstein Properties, said: “We need to work with state and local leaders to do everything we can to make New York the best place to live, work, and visit.

“We’ve done it before, and I am confident we can do it again.

"I’ve always said you should never bet against New York; This city and state will come back bigger and better than ever before.”

Silverstein Properties will partner with Greenwood Gaming and Entertainment, the owner and operator of Parx Casino, for the facilities offered by The Avenir.

The current plans for The Avenir include two, 46-story towers connected by a public sky bridge, 1,000 luxury hotel rooms, a restaurant complex, a 1,000-seat performance hall, 600,000sq ft of gaming and casino space and 100 units of affordable housing.

Lisa Silverstein, Vice Chair of Silverstein Properties, said: “Our company has been part of the Hudson Yards / Hell’s Kitchen neighbourhood for nearly 40 years.

“We have already built 549 affordable homes on West 42nd Street and look forward to developing over a hundred more as part of this project.

“The Avenir is an opportunity to create much-needed affordable housing, jobs, and economic development, along with many neighbourhood improvements in an isolated and often-overlooked part of the city.”

North America isn't the only region to announce fresh casino resort plans, with MGM Resorts revealing Galaxy, a prospective casino venue in Thailand.
