The administration of Philippines President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. received a ‘rare compliment’ from China via the Chinese Embassy in Manila for the President’s order in banning all POGOs in the Philippines.
According to Macau and China news agencies, the POGO ban came during China’s ongoing government crackdown on illegal gambling and cross-border illegal gambling/crime syndicates, which also included anti-crime operations and inspections in Macau.
“We believe this decision echoes the call of the Philippine people and serves the common interests of people of both countries,” a Chinese Embassy statement issued was quoted by Philippines news reports.
“China is ready to continue its strong law enforcement cooperation with the Philippines and better protect the safety and well-being of the two peoples.”
“POGO breeds serious crimes and gravely undermines the interests of both Philippine and Chinese peoples.”
Aside from China, the POGO ban was also widely supported by the local Philippines people and most of its country’s representatives.
However, a few have also voiced concerns over the ban, including Rep. Salceda and PAGCOR’s CEO Tengco, regarding potential revenue loss and the possibility of the ban making it harder to track and monitor existing POGOs in the future
