Macau’s Judiciary Police have arrested a female casino employee in connection with the theft of gaming chips from a casino worth up to HK$400,000 (US$51,316.8).

According to Macau news, the police launched an investigation which led to surveillance operations after a formal complaint was filed. The police apprehended the suspect while she attempted another theft. They discovered chips hidden and taped onto her body.

It was found that said employee, who was hired in 2007, had allegedly stolen the chips from the roulette table during her shifts at work. Since June, she had pilfered about HK$100,000 in at least three incidents.

Investigations to recover other stolen chips remain ongoing as the suspect was uncooperative.

In the earlier months of 2024, Macau faced several cases of casino-related crimes, which included a case of casino fraud, with 8 arrested; an illegal mahjong operations in which 4 elderly suspects were arrested, two separate cases of casino-related crimes, illegal gambling arrests where at least 59 people were charged, as well as the fight against illegal money exchange in the background.

Macau’s DICJ was also cracking down hard on unlicensed junket operations, which resurfaced despite the fact that just recently two major ex-junket operators have been convicted and their assets auctioned off by the court.
