A 60 year-old local Macau man was arrested for suspected illegal lottery ticket sales.

According to Macau news reports, the police said they began investigations after receiving reports that someone was suspected for illegally selling lottery tickets.

The suspect was intercepted outside of a shop on Caminho das Hortas. Ten Hong Kong Jockey Club Mark Six Lottery computers and tickets were found at the scene.

The man eventually confessed to police that he began buying lottery tickets at the end of July. On the day of his arrest, he had purchased 10 tickets with a betting amount of HK$40 (US$5.14) from another man for MOP$450 (US$57.7), intending to resell them for MOP$50 each.

The case was handed over to the public prosecution’s office for further processing.

Police also urged the public to report any suspected illegal gambling activities to the relevant authorities.

In the first half of 2024, Macau faced several cases of casino-related crimes, the most recent being a casino worker arrested for chip theft.

Earlier reports included a case of casino fraud, with 8 arrested; an illegal mahjong operation in which four elderly suspects were arrested, two separate cases of casino-related crimes, illegal gambling arrests where at least 59 people were charged, as well as the fight against illegal money exchange in the background.

Macau’s DICJ has also been cracking down on unlicensed junket operations, which resurfaced despite the fact that just recently two major ex-junket operators have been convicted and their assets auctioned off by the court.
