Queensland EMG sector sees year-on-year growth for July

Queensland’s electronic gaming machine (EGM) sector saw 7% growth year-on-year, and approximately 12% revenue growth month-on-month.

According to statistics from the Queensland Government official website, metered win for the July 2024 period amounted to AU$326m (US$216.3m) compared to June’s AU$384m and July 2023’s AU$303m. Out of the total, AU$137m came from clubs, while AU$190m wasfrom hotels. 

This was despite a slight decrease in operational machines and operational sites, where there were 40,126 machines in July 2023 compared to 40,041 in July 2024; and 1,037 sites last year compared to 1,031 sites now. Hotels saw a slight increase in operational machines, from 19,000 in 2023 to 19,087 in 2024, compared to clubs, which experienced a decrease from 21,126 to 20,954. 

Recently, a credit card ban was enforced by Responsible Wagering Australia.

Elsewhere, new payment methods are gradually finding their way into the sector, with BitStarz recently expanding to Australia, while Stake, a huge crypto operator, also hails from Australia.
