GambleAware has released its donation figures for the first quarter of the 2024/25 financial year. The organisation received a total of £294,722 ($387,802) in Research, Prevention, and Treatment (RPT) contributions between April and June 2024.
This level of funding aligns with the pattern observed in previous years, where the first quarter typically sees a smaller proportion of annual donations compared to the fourth quarter.
Some of the largest donations have come from ProgressPlay, which donated £24,346; Star Racing, which donated £27,547; and Virgin Bet, which donated £21,753.
The charity anticipates that this fiscal year will likely be the final one under the current voluntary donation system before the implementation of a statutory levy.
In addition to the RPT contributions, GambleAware also received £40,000 in Regulatory Settlement funding. This amount represents the final transfers of monthly installments agreed between the Gambling Commission and a single operator.
Zoe Osmond, GambleAware CEO, stated: “This is anticipated to be the final year of the voluntary donation system, before moving on to a system with a statutory levy.
“As we transition to the new system it is essential that funding is maintained at the same level as previous years to ensure there is no disruption to prevention and treatment services for gambling harm.”
As the industry prepares for this change in funding structure, GambleAware is calling on operators to maintain their contributions.
This appeal aims to safeguard the continuity of essential services – including the National Gambling Support Network – and to facilitate a smooth transition to the new commissioning system.
