Operator Danske Spil has reported its financial results for the first half of 2024.
Overall, total gross gaming revenue reached DKK2.55bn ($379.30m) during the period, representing an increase of 3% year-on-year, while profit after tax went up by DKK85m to a figure of DKK1bn.
The company partly credits the improvements to high pools in lotteries, especially the Eurojackpot, as well as the positive effect of a product change for Lotto last year. And, despite the slight decrease in revenue for Danish License Games, Euro 2024 saw an increase in the number of customers showing an interest in Oddset’s products.
Individually, while Danish License Games saw a decline in gross gaming revenue, Danish Lottery Games, The Danish Class Lottery and Elite Gaming all saw rises during the period, while Danske Spil sold its stake in Swush back in January.
As a result of its performance in the first half of 2024, Danske Spil has decided not to change its expectations for its results for the year as a whole, with gross gaming revenue estimated to be between DKK5bn and DKK5.2bn, and profit after tax between DKK1.8bn and DKK1.9bn.
Danske Spil Chairman of the Board Peter Christensen said: "We are satisfied with the development in the first half of 2024, and I am happy that we manage to both raise the top and bottom line and at the same time strengthen the work to ensure healthy gambling habits among customers.
“We are proud that the positive development from recent years continues, both in terms of responsibility and profits for the community.”
Danske Spil CEO Nikolas Lyhne-Knudsen added: "We can look back on six months in which we have strengthened our business and increased responsibility. Our lotteries remain popular, and in June we were able to celebrate a lucky Dane who won the biggest prize in Danish history of DKK 760 million. DKK in Eurojackpot.
“Danske Spil was created to generate profit for the community, while at the same time we thoughtfully ensure that Danes can have fun with our games in a safe and secure environment. I am proud that we succeeded in this - also in the first half of 2024.”
Veikkaus in Finland has this week also released its financial figures for H1, showing a 20.4% decrease in operating profit.
