Wynn Macau has announced its continued sponsorship of the “Wynn Presents ─ 3x3 Greater Bay Area Tour 2024,” a basketball event jointly organised by the Macau SAR Government's Sports Bureau and StarMac Entertainment. The tournament will be held in Macau from 11-13 October, with the finals taking place at two iconic locations – the Ruins of St. Paul’s and Tap Seac Square.
The event is part of celebrations for the 75th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China and the 25th anniversary of Macau's return to China. The tour will also include stops in other Greater Bay Area (GBA) cities such as Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Hengqin and Guangzhou.
In the GBA region, only men's events will be held at each stop, with up to 32 teams allowed to compete. The top three teams will advance to the finals in Macau, which will feature both men's and women's competitions. The men’s group will have 32 teams, while the women’s group will have 16 teams. Registration for the regional events opens on 9 September and for the finals on 19 September.
More than MOP$800,000 ($99,582) in prizes will be awarded to top players in the competition. The event aims to promote sports within the GBA while marking key anniversaries for China and Macau.
Several high-profile guests attended the press conference to launch the event. They included Lei Si Leng, Acting Vice President of Macau Sports Bureau of Macau SAR Government; Lou Kit Long, CEO of StarMac Entertainment & Production; Craig Fullalove, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Administrative Officer of Wynn Macau and Michael Cheong, Executive Vice President of Macau-China Basketball Association.
