Japan’s Universal Entertainment has announced the appointment of its new Representative Director and President, effective 19 September 2024. Along with his appointment included changes to current Representative Directors Hajime Tokuda and Takako Okada.
The changes were finalised after the group’s Extraordinary General Shareholders’ Meeting.
After Tomohiro Okada’s appointment, former Representative Director and interim President Hajime Tokuda was appointed as Director and Vice President; while former Representative Director Takako Okada was appointed as Director.
Tokuda’s new role will have him overseeing Corporate Planning and Foreign Business, while Takako Okada will be responsible for the Okada Museum and Foreign Business. Tomohiro Okada will oversee the overall management of the group as the new President and Director.
Others on the board included Managing Director Kenshi Asano and ‘Outside’ Directors Masayoshi Miyanaga and Hiroshi Miyauchi. Audit & Supervisory Board Members included Yutaka Yazawa, Makoto Suzuki and Akiyoshi Kaneko.
Just last week, Universal Entertainment announced the forming of a governance committee with the aim of investigating the group's management situation and enhancing compliance.
Said committee was headed by Tokuda and consisted of both ‘outside’ directors Miyanaga and Miyauchi and Audit & Supervisory member Yazawa.
The governance committee was formed after former Director Jun Fujimoto resigned from his post end of August. According to reports, Fujimoto was found to have “breached his fiducial duty or duty of loyalty as a director in a transaction in 2012.”
