Spillemyndigheden: Danish gambling spend drops 2.8% for September

While many of the verticals saw decreases across the board, the online casino market is still managing to offset the worst of it.

Spillemyndigheden, the Danish Gambling Authority, has released its gambling revenue figures for September 2024.

The overall spend for September 2024 was DKK 553m, which represented a 2.8% fall when compared to the same month last year.

The biggest drop came in betting, which fell 22% to DKK 144m. Out of these, 63.2% of bets were placed on mobile, 14.6% on desktop and 22.2% from physical betting shops.

Weekdays saw approximately 11% of weekly deposit totals each day, while Saturday and Sunday had around 20% each.

The spending in land-based casinos dropped 9.7% to DKK 29m, which equated to a daily average spend of DKK 155,025.

Gaming machines didn’t fare too well, either, with spend falling 3.5% to DKK 92m.

The daily spend of physical slot machines was DKK 475,557 and the most popular time for these was between 3-4pm, which accounted for 8.8% of all sessions.

Finally, the only increase came from the online casino vertical, which saw a 12% rise in spending up to DKK 288m.

Good to know: Mobile players accounted for 3% more online casino players when compared to last year

In total, 77.5% of this came from slots, 3% from bingo, 3% from poker, 6% from roulette and 7.5% from blackjack.

As of September 2024, a total of 53,043 people are on the Rofus register and 37 players reached out to StopSpillet.

In other Danish news, the Authority's youth gambling prevention campaign has won several awards, including one from the International Association of Gaming Regulators (IAGR).
