Key points:

- Phase one of the $340m renovation modernised 1,500 suites in the Ipanema Tower and revamped dining, pool and casino areas

- The Rio is now the largest Hyatt property by room count and the first Destination by Hyatt hotel in Nevada

- Phase two will focus on updating the Masquerade Tower and public spaces

The Rio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas has officially joined the Destination by Hyatt brand, becoming the largest property in Hyatt’s global portfolio by room count.

This milestone follows the completion of the first phase of a $340m renovation aimed at re-establishing the property as a prominent destination in Las Vegas. The move also marks the first Destination by Hyatt hotel in Nevada.

As part of the renovation, the 1,500 suites in the Ipanema Tower have been redesigned, reportedly drawing inspiration from the vibrant colours and energy of Rio de Janeiro.

Other key upgrades include the launch of six dining venues within the newly opened Canteen Food Hall, a renovated 220,000-square-foot meetings and convention space, a pool district with four pools and a casino floor with 500 new slot machines and 30 table games.

The property also introduced the Lapa Lounge, reportedly inspired by the nightlife of Rio de Janeiro’s Lapa neighbourhood and Luckley Tavern & Grill, a casual dining option offering an all-American menu.

Good to know: The second phase of renovations will focus on the Masquerade Tower and additional public areas, with the aim of reportedly delivering a ‘cohesive and elevated guest experience’ across the entire property.

Enhancements to the resort’s exterior include a dynamic light display designed by lighting experts Chris Kuroda and Andrew Giffin.

Patrick Miller, Rio Hotel & Casino President and CEO, said: “We’ve not only re-energised the resort’s design and experience, but we’ve proudly honoured its legacy as a quintessential Las Vegas icon, providing World of Hyatt members and global travellers with even more ways to immerse themselves in our destination’s fun, energetic and eclectic atmosphere."

The property’s renovation aligns with earlier initiatives, including the launch of a new loyalty program and the integration of the IGT Advantage casino management system.
