Key points:
- ACMA has blocked six more illegal gambling websites, bringing the total to 1,117 since 2019
- Over 220 illegal operators have left the Australian market since 2017 due to stricter regulations
- Consumers are urged to verify wagering services and avoid unlicensed platforms to protect their money
The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has expanded its efforts to protect consumers by blocking six additional illegal online gambling websites.
The latest enforcement action targets websites operating in direct violation of the Interactive Gambling Act 2001.
The blocked websites include Eddy Vegas, Lucky Friends, Lucky Ones, MoonWin, Slottie and SpinsUP. These sites now join a growing list of platforms deemed non-compliant with Australian gambling regulations.
Since initiating website blocking measures in November 2019, ACMA has successfully blocked 1,117 illegal gambling and affiliate websites.
Good to know: ACMA's ongoing campaign has also prompted over 220 illegal services to voluntarily exit the Australian market since 2017
ACMA emphasises the risks associated with using unlicensed gambling sites, noting that these platforms typically lack essential consumer protections. Australians engaging with such services therefore may risk losing their funds with little to no recourse.
As such, the authority strongly recommends that consumers verify the legitimacy of online gambling services by consulting ACMA's official register of licensed operators – a proactive approach that hopes to help protect individuals from potential financial harm and fraudulent activities.
ACMA’s website also offers resources for understanding online gambling regulations, tips for avoiding fraudulent platforms and guidance on filing complaints about illegal sites.
