Svenska Spel has revealed its interim financial report for the first quarter of 2025, highlighting an overall group revenue of SEK1.88bn ($200m) for the period.
This net gaming revenue figure represents a 4% decrease when compared to results from the year prior, a change which has been attributed by the group to a fall in land-based and slot machine engagement alongside enhanced responsible gambling initiatives in the Swedish market. NGR for games of chance also fell by 1% year-on-year, with Svenska Spel also attributing this slight decline to the late Easter period – which usually provides a lucrative spell of March lottery sales in the nation.
NGR for sports and casino wagering in Sweden remained flat year-on-year, while overall group operating profit increased by a notable 96% when compared to Q1 2024, settling at a figure of SEK609m. Elsewhere, online business continued to grow – rising 7% year-on-year and paired with an operating profit margin of 32%.
Commenting on these results, Svenska Spel President and CEO Anna Johnson said: “Through last year's major changes, including reorganisation, we have created space for investments in our focus areas – growth, sustainable gaming and transformation. The fact that we have space for investments is also proof that we are doing the right things and part of our strategy to create long-term sustainable value”
Good to know: Following an initial proposal for the closure of Casino Cosmopol Stockholm in May 2024, Svenska Spel has now confirmed the location has been officially shut down on a permanent basis
It was a busy first quarter for Svenska Spel and the Swedish market, with the group following up on its Q4 2024 financial report in February by announcing a new partnership with Bragg Gaming later in the month.
Following this, the company underwent key personnel changes in March, which included the appointment of Amäni Radwan as the new group CFO, as well as the nomination of Eva-Lotta Sjöstedt as the operator’s new Chairwoman of the Board.
