Eight individuals have been arrested in Tsuen Wan following a police raid on a suspected illegal mahjong gambling den, according to The Standard.
The Tsuen Wan district anti-triad squad carried out the operation after an investigation identified a venue operating on the upper floor of a building in Chuen Lung Street.
Officers arrested a 55-year-old man surnamed Wong, suspected of operating the gambling den. He has been provisionally charged with one count of operating a gambling establishment. Two men and two women aged between 43 and 58 have also been charged with gambling in a gambling establishment.
A further three individuals, one man and two women, were released on bail pending further investigation. They are required to report to the police in mid-May.
During the raid, police confiscated three automatic mahjong tables, six sets of gambling equipment, assorted furniture and HK$2,480 in cash believed to be linked to gambling activities.
The case is scheduled for hearing at the West Kowloon Magistrates’ Courts on 9 May.
Hong Kong law tightly regulates gambling, and operating unauthorised gambling venues remains a serious offence. The operation forms part of a wider crackdown on illegal gambling and associated criminal activities within the district.
